The CIU10 hosts annual reading competitions for elementary and secondary school students. Teams are asked to read a selection of age-appropriate books, with a maximum limit of 25 books per competition. Teams are given the opportunity to compete against one another to see who can correctly answer the most questions about the books they have read. A team participating in the competition typically consists of 6 to 12 students. Additionally, teams are allowed to have up to two alternate members if they choose to do so.
Participation in the reading competitions is open to all charter schools, school districts, and nonpublic schools.
The Elementary reading competition, the reading list becomes available by the end of September, and the competition will be held the following Spring.
The secondary reading list is released by the end of May, and the competition will be held in the fall.
