Safety Care

  • Safety Care® Crisis Prevention Training provides the skills and competencies necessary to effectively prevent, minimize, and manage behavioral challenges with dignity, safety, and the possibility of change. Safety Care® delivers the tools you need to be safe when working with behaviorally challenging individuals. These strategies are appropriate for all individuals as well as those who have experienced psychological or sexual trauma. Safety Care® promotes a reinforcement-based approach to developing new skills, maintaining safety, and reducing or eliminating restrictive interventions such as restraint.

The IU offers an INITIAL training course that provides participants with a one-year certification in Safety Care® Crisis Prevention. In order to maintain Safety Care certification, certificate holders must participate in a yearly refresher training.  The IU provides refresher training opportunities quarterly (January, April, July, & October) and will work with schools to provide customized refresher opportunities as we are able.
