Course Description

This course is designed for teachers from grades K-12. The participant will be introduced to Howard Gardner’s Theory of multiple intelligences and how they can make the nine intelligences a regular part of their classroom teaching in accordance with the Pennsylvania Academic Standards in order to meet the individual needs of all students. Concrete examples will be provided of how this theory can be applied to curriculum development, teaching strategies, classroom management, assessment, special education, and other areas. This course has no prerequisites or prior requirements.

This course, which lasts approximately 30 days, will be completed strictly online using the Moodle platform. The instructor for this course is Agolino Educational Services. Pending receipt of payment, participants will receive an email from Agolino Educational Services containing their log-on information the night before the course begins.

Participants who successfully complete all requirements of this course will earn Three (3) PDE Graduate Level Credits, equal to 90 Act 48 Hours.

Participants will be able to:

  • discuss how the theory of multiple intelligences was developed.
  • analyze the nine broad range of abilities, or “intelligences”, that humans possess.
  • demonstrate how to identify participant’s own multiple intelligences.
  • compare and contrast activators and deactivators of intelligences.
  • show how to assess students’ multiple intelligences.
  • explain how to present the theory of multiple intelligences to a group of students.
  • list, identify, and discuss characteristics of an effective multiple intelligences teacher.
  • list and model teaching strategies for each type of intelligence.
  • describe multiple, intelligence approaches to managing individual behaviors.
  • develop lesson plans aligned with the Pennsylvania Academic Standards using the theory of multiple intelligences.
  • provide examples of ways to assess students according to the multiple intelligences theory.

Graduate Level Requirement

Act 48 requires 42 hours of instruction plus 48 hours of out-of-class activity including a course project. Participants’ out-of-class assignments include but are not limited to:

  • create a research project that will elaborate on one or more of the topics covered in this course.
