CIU 10 Gifted Networking

Gifted Networking sessions for teachers are held three times a school year.  Each session contains state updates and resources and information for teachers, as well as an opportunity to network with other gifted educators in the region.

CIU 10 Gifted Boot Camp

This is an asynchronous training opportunity for new teachers of gifted or experienced teachers who are interested in a refresh.  This is a self-paced Gifted Boot Camp.  Topics will include an overview of Pennsylvania's definition of gifted education, Chapter 16, and a review of the forms that support Gifted Education.  Attendees will be asked to complete small assignments.  For more information on enrolling in this course, please contact Brooke Walton at bwalton@ciu10.org.

GIEP Goals Clinic

Would you like guidance on GIEP goals that you are writing?  This session is for you!  Join Amy Davis McShane and Patrice Semicek for sessions that are designed to help Gifted educators write compliant, quality goals in their students' GIEPs.  Teachers will be able to work with each other to craft goals.  Sessions are offered several times throughout the year.

Session Dates: October 14, 2025; December 18, 2025; February 9, 2026; April 21, 2026

Gifted in PA Webinar Series

This introductory webinar series is designed to help educators, administrators, and school staff build a strong foundation in gifted education as it is practiced across Pennsylvania. Participants will gain essential knowledge of state regulations, student supports, and instructional considerations that shape services for gifted learners.

Session Topics Include: 

Chapter 16 Overview (October 22) – Learn the key components of Pennsylvania’s gifted education regulations, including compliance expectations, timelines, and the responsibilities of schools in ensuring appropriate services.

GIEP Overview (November 19) – Explore the purpose and process of the Gifted Individualized Education Plan (GIEP), with practical guidance on writing compliant, meaningful, and student-centered goals.

Characteristics of a Gifted Learner (January 21)– Understand the diverse academic, social, and emotional characteristics of gifted students, including how giftedness may present differently across populations.

Join the Gifted in PA team: Bureau of Special Education Advisor - Pennsylvania Department of Education, Patrice Semicek, Eastern Pennsylvania Gifted Liaison - Montgomery County Intermediate Unit, and Amy Davis McShane, Western Pennsylvania Gifted Liaison - Allegheny Intermediate Unit to hear information on the state of Gifted Education in PA, answers to common questions, and online resources.  The team will also answer, "Is it compliance or is it best practice?"  Register to receive the session recording.
