How do you get your students to use technology for learning? By designing an online Moodle community following the Instructional Design Model, using Teaching Best Practices and differentiated methods of assessment, as well as digital tools, the participant will be able to assist their students in achieving the curriculum goals in the classroom. By teaching the participants to include relevant resources and activities, their students will be able to use critical thinking skills, reading and publishing skills, as well as data analysis skills. This course, which lasts approximately 30 days, will be completed strictly online using the Moodle platform. The instructor for this course is Joshua Stein with Stein Business. Pending receipt of payment, participants will receive an email from Stein Business containing their log-on information the night before the course begins. Participants who successfully complete all requirements of this course will earn Three (3) PDE Graduate Level Credits, equal to 90 Act 48 Hours. Please Note: You should be proficient in Microsoft Office and using the Internet before signing up for this class. It is also recommended that you take one of our other classes prior to this course. Participants will be able to:
- identify their personal learning style.
- describe at least 2 learning styles of current students.
- complete 2 of the three Learning Styles Inventories.
- develop and use an authentic assessment with their students.
- define and integrate three Formative Assessment practices in their community.
- identify and state three elements of good Digital Citizenship as defined by proposed PA Technology Standards.
- experience a variety of new technologies, wikis, moodle, podcasts, blogs and RSS feeds. Participants will also be able to describe educational uses for these technologies.
Graduate Level Requirement
Act 48 requires 42 hours of instruction plus 48 hours of out-of-class activity including a course project. Participants’ out-of-class assignments include but are not limited to:
- use 3 different search engines and find 6 websites that are relevant to your curriculum. Link to your site. Report to the class in the appropriate Forum on the class Moodle.
- prepare a unit to teach via Online Learning Community using the Instructional Design model.
- complete 3 Learning Styles Inventories.
- throughout the 4 weeks of course period – work on and develop a complete and useable Moodle online community. The working online community will be posted and linked on the class Moodle site.
- go to www.moodle.com and read to learn about the platform. Write a 3 paragraph analysis of how Moodle can help you reach your curriculum goals. Participants begin creating their own Moodle site.
