    The “Go To” Details

    February 25, 2020  |  Registration begins at 8:30AM  | micro:bit: 9:00AM - 12:00PM |  Vex robots: 1:00 - 4:00PM | West Decatur - Clinton Room | Registration: $50  |  STEM lending library members may send two attendees at no charge.

The ever-expanding CIU 10 STEM Lending Library now includes micro:bit and VEX robotics.

Master two of our newest STEM lending library items: micro:bits and VEX Robotics. micro:bits are integrated, code-able computing platforms; no keyboard or display is required. Simply connect a USB cable to the micro:bit and use web-based software to code. In the afternoon, we will build VEX robots and send them into the battle arena.

The micro:bit is system on a chip. It includes an on-board LED matrix display, motion sensor, light meter, and a connector for easy connections to an array of devices. It can be programmed using block coding or Python. We will begin by examining logarithms and programs as part of the micro:bit session. After getting the basics, attendees will build a device using the micro:bit to handle inputs and outputs.

The VEX robots will come to life during the afternoon session. VEX robots are heavy duty, metal constructs with powerful motors and a robust controller. Participants will enter the battle arena to compete in a VEX competition.

We will also construct a robot together.

You may attend the full day or choose one session that interests you. Full-day attendees receive lunch.
