• EmPOWER Your Classroom with Power: AAC Series

     

    Participants will learn to support students with whom they work in their classrooms or caseloads with complex support needs and who would benefit from augmentative alternative communication (AAC) through the use of core vocabulary. Participants will use a blended learning model, videos and online teaching, to explore and expand their understanding of the Power ACC modules and support their students.

    All trainings taking place at CIU10-Centre County unless otherwise specified:

    September 16, 2019, October 23, 2019 at TIU11 with guest speaker Lindsay Cargill, January 16, 2020, & May 6, 2020 - Registration Closed

    9:00 AM - 3:00 PM; Registration begins at 8:30am

    $300 per team of Special Ed. Classroom Teacher & Speech-Language Pathologist
    Registration fee includes lunch and training materials. Each additional team member is welcome to join the team at a cost of $10 per day.

    Attendees must attend all sessions, and complete all required activities to receive credit and ACT 48

    This course is of pending ASHA approval offered for 0.85 ASHA CEUs (Intermediate level, Professional area).

     

    Power AAC focuses on five key areas to increase the skills of educators as they learn about communication to support their students. It focuses on Powerful skills in: 

    • Partner Skills 
    • Opportunities 
    • Words in social and instructional environments 
    • Evidence for decision-making 
    • Resources for creating, sharing, and implementing for guiding your students

    Series Guidelines & Requirements:

    • Teams will utilize the POWER:AAC Modules to support students with whom they work in their classrooms or caseloads with complex communication needs.
    • Teams will include: Special Education Classroom Teacher AND Speech-Language Pathologist
      • The following are also recommended, but not required, to participate as team members: Para Educator, Occupational Therapist, Physical Therapist, Regular Education Teacher
    • Teams will attend four (4) in person sessions and view six (6) modules between in-person sessions.
    • Practitioners on participating teams will video record minimally one lesson per in-person training. Video recordings will be shared with team members and IU educational consultants to help provide feedback on videos submitted by their team.
    • Teams will commit to periodic problem-solving meetings (by Zoom meeting or onsite at the school), whereby the IU technical assistance consultant(s) will provide guidance and problem solving support for implementation
    • Monthly activities will be assigned based on each module.
    • Teams will commit to minimally one onsite visit at the school 
       

  • CIU 10  Professional Development Policy

    • Registrations made after the registration deadline may incur an additional $15.00 processing fee.

    • Registration fees will not be refunded for cancellations made after the registration deadline.

    • Full registration costs will be charged to those who register but do not attend the event. 

    • Professional Development Hours will not be issued until payment is received.

    • The Pennsylvania Department of Education's policy requires 100% attendance of the event for Act 48 Hours to be earned. At the start of each event, a roster will be provided for participants to sign in. Everyone attending a CIU 10-sponsored event must sign in to confirm 100% attendance.  Anything less than 100% attendance (and confirmation thereof) will forfeit Act 48.

    • If you have special dietary needs it is your responsibility to contact the individual listed on the training description/notice at least one week before the training.

    • By registering for training/meeting you are giving permission for photos, video and use of information concerning the event to be used by Central Intermediate Unit 10
