ACADEMIC DEBATE IS ONE OF THE MOST VALUABLE AND RIGOROUS EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCES YOU CAN PROVIDE YOUR STUDENTS. FORM YOUR TEAM TODAY!
In debate, students learn how to research a topic from multiple perspectives, synthesize information, and deliver their argument to an audience succinctly. They learn how to engage in civil discourse by stating their position clearly and supporting it with evidence, while respectfully disagreeing with an opposing viewpoint.
Arne Duncan, Former US Secretary of Education, called competitive debate the “best practice to produce dynamic Americans proficient in the 4 ‘Cs’ of 21st century skills–critical thinking, communication, collaboration, creativity, and also a 5th, civic awareness and engagement.”
ABOUT THE CIU10 DEBATE COMPETITION
The Debate Competition is open to students in Grades 7, 8, and 9.
All charter schools, school districts, and nonpublic schools are welcome to participate in the debate competition.
We will follow the Public Forum Debate format. Students will compete in pairs.
